IDGOP Top Three Issues in Idaho

#1  EDUCATION

As I look to Idaho’s future for our children and grandchildren, I think about preserving the values, traditions, and work ethic that has made Idaho a wonderful place to live and raise our children.  Article IX  Section 1 of the Idaho Constitution reads “The stability of a republican form of government depending mainly upon the intelligence of the people,…it must establish and maintain a general, uniform and thorough system of public, free common schools.”  Education and training of our children is necessary to the success of creating and sustaining businesses that provide good jobs so our kids can stay in Idaho.

I support education as the integration of K-12 public schools, charter schools, private schools, home schools, pods and school choice. The incorporation of CTE, Launch and focus of CSI on workforce development is fundamental in creating opportunities for good jobs and employees for businesses desperately need those skillsets.

#2  WATER AND OUR ECONOMY

I believe a vibrant and diverse economy is essential for Idahoans’ life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.  The principles of low taxes, minimum regulation and limited government are vital for the free-market system to flourish.  Government functions required by the Idaho Constitution and Idaho statute must be as efficient and effective as possible.

That said, water is the primary economic driver in LD 24.  We have made some progress with infrastructure repair, water conservation practices and some aquifer recharge.  However, the long-term solution is building the infrastructure necessary to recharge the aquifer to a level that will sustain not only agricultural water permits but the expanding industrial and domestic needs. I support aquifer recharge as the long-term solution for future droughts and potential water curtailment in Idaho.

#3  IDAHO’S RESOURCES

Idaho’s natural resources abound.  I support expanding the Good Neighbor Policy with the USFS to harvest more timber, provide good jobs and reduce the fire load for wild fires.

Idaho has over $1trillion of strategic and valuable minerals.  I am working to integrate Idaho’s mining permit process with President Trumps FAST 41 permitting so the miners can get to work quickly!!

The strength of any economy is cheap energy.  I have long supported nuclear power.  There are companies beginning to develop fuel rod SMRs and that is a good beginning.  But the future is thorium molten salt SMR and Micro reactors.  Idaho has enough thorium to power the US for 100 years.  The reactors are safe, can be refueled while running and can be turned on and off!  They can run from 20% to 100% output to match demand, and, they can process spent fuels! Nuclear power, Idaho’s future!
